Error message 'Authorisation details not found' appears on workstations when using network version of TaxCalc

Some users have reported that after updating their login details on the TaxCalc website, additional machines (workstations) may get the error message Authorisation details not found.

This is because when the system was set up the workstations couldn't 'see' the server properly and a file called asp_database_connection.txt had to be created on the server. The workstations use this file to allow them to connect and the details for the connection are stored locally on the workstation. If the password details are changed these workstations may not be able to open TaxCalc as the locally stored credentials no longer match the current details.

You can fix this issue using the following steps.

At the server

  1. Go to Start > All Programs > TaxCalcHub > Discovery Response editor. (The Discovery Response editor may be in the support tools sub folder or the TaxCalcHub folder)
  2. Fill in the username and password for the web login.
  3. Click Create Database connection file and save it to a location you can access from the workstations (or copy it to a memory stick).
  4. Click OK to close (this will put the details in the registry of the server).

PLEASE NOTE: The next step involves making changes to the registry. If you're unsure of any of these steps ask your local IT support to assist. TaxCalc can take no responsibility for any errors made editing the registry.

On the workstations

  1. Go to Start > Run (or Start > Search depending on your operating system).
  2. Type regedit and press return.
  3. Click Yes if prompted by the user account control to confirm the action.
  4. Navigate down the registry tree to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Acorah Software Products\TaxCalcHub\APF\Discovery.
  5. Right-click on the word Discovery and select delete.
  6. Confirm that you want to remove the key and it will be deleted.

Once you've edited the registry, you need to get TaxCalc working again:

  1. Start TaxCalc on the workstation.
  2. If the program opens correctly, no further action is required.
  3. If you get a Database Connection File error message, drag and drop the ASP_DB_Connection file you created earlier (at the server stage) onto the error message itself.
  4. TaxCalc should start as expected.
