I can download the TaxCalc installer but it will not run

A small number of customers have reported that while they can download the installation file for TaxCalc, they cannot run it.

This is likely to be caused by a feature called 'Blocked File protection Control'. To resolve the problem:

  1. Right-hand click on the downloaded file.
  2. Select Properties
  3. On the General Tab near the bottom you will see an Unblock button next to the text 'This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer'.
  4. Click Unblock.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Close the properties window and run the installer.

This problem happens because the files zone information is preserved when you download a file, meaning that on some machines you cannot run downloaded files without unblocking them.

Please note: If you already have TaxCalc on your computer, it is normally easier to run the in-program update routine rather than download a new installer. This can be done by clicking on the update prompt when starting the program, pressing F9 while TaxCalc is open (to check for updates) or selecting the update prompt from the notifications area.
