When you update the TaxCalc program, the following message may be shown: Application Version Mismatch TaxCalc cannot start because the application and database versions are not in sync. Please shut down TaxCalc and try running the installer again to rectify the problem. For more guidance on this issue (or if the problem persists) please read this support article on the TaxCalc website. There are a number of scenarios that can lead to this message being shown when a user attempts to start TaxCalc. It is designed to protect the database from being accessed by PCs that are running an out of date version of the software.
1. Updates to a networked version of TaxCalc being run from a workstation, without the update first being run from the serverThe recommendation is that the update is always run from the server before allowing the workstations to run the update. Open TaxCalc on the server and run the update when prompted. If this fails, run the update with the latest web download and then run TaxCalc on the workstations. This message may be seen after a workstation fails to run the web update correctly. If this happens update with the latest web download. You may have installed a trial version of Accounts Production (AP) in tha past – therefore the database used by the trial version would be detected by the installer and prompt this error.
Please Note: It is important that you only follow the steps above if you have no data that you need to keep, as this data cannot be restored.
When this occurs the software is the latest version (it has normally been reinstalled) but the database is a prior version… hence the Application Version Mismatch message. In this instance, you will need to go to the server (if in a network) and update with the latest web download first. If you are using the network version of TaxCalc, make sure to update on the server.
Once the server has been updated, run TaxCalc on any workstations and they should update correctly.
