TaxCalc will not work after using AdvancedSystemCare

After using AdvanceSyetemCare utilities to clean their PC a customer reported that TaxCalc (network version) would not start.

Further investigation showed that the PostgreSQL service (The database back-end) had been disabled. This meant TaxCalc would not work as it had no way of writing to or reading from the database.

To resolve this issue

  1. Open AdvanceSystemCare.
  2. Go to Toolbox.
  3. Select Startup Manager.
  4. Select Services.
  5. Scroll down until you find the service starting with Postgres... change the Status and Operation setting to enabled.

Please note: If there are more than one instance of Postgres, repeat these steps for each one.

The Postgres service now needs to be started.

  1. Go to START > Search.
  2. Type services.msc and press return.
  3. After a few seconds the services window will open scroll down to the entry starting Postgres...
  4. Right Hand click on it and select start.
  5. Postgres should now start in a few seconds.

If PostgreSQL does not start, it is likely that another module of AdvancedSystemCare (Empty Folder Scanner) has removed empty folders in the database structure. Removing these folders means that the database engine cannot start as the structure needs to be complete. In this case, call the Support team who will try and assist you in rebuilding the folder structure
