Before you move TaxCalc to a new Mac, make sure your current software is up to date. You can't easily move a database created in an older version of TaxCalc to a newer version.

If you do have to restore an older backup and you experience problems, contact Support for help.

Moving TaxCalc to a new Mac is a three-step process.

Make a backup (old Mac)

  1. Go to Hub > Administration > Database
  2. Select Backup Database.
  3. Insert backup file media that you can copy to the new Mac – for example, a memory stick or removable hard drive – or you can use a shared folder.
  4. Select the destination for the backup file being created.
  5. Once the backup is completed click on OK and exit the program.

Install TaxCalc (new Mac)

  1. Go to the Knowledge Base article How to install the Mac version of TaxCalc.
  2. Follow the instructions.

Restore the backup (new Mac)

  1. Insert the backup memory stick or hard drive into the new Mac, or open the shared folder.
  2. Open TaxCalc.
  3. Go to Administration > Backup
  4. Restore the backup.
  5. Your data set should now be visible when you start TaxCalc on the new Mac.

NOTE: This process will restore the data as it was on the old Mac so should not be performed on a Mac where data has been entered since being installed.

NOTE: If you store your return files outside the database, contact Support before moving TaxCalc in order to minimise any issues.
