How do I remove duplicate returns linking to same file (Individual, Partnership and Limited Company users)?

Sometimes more than one tax return can link to the same file if the file location appears to be different but is effectively the same – for example, one file name has capitals and the other doesn’t.

If this happens, although it looks like there are two returns, they both link to the same file.

If you delete one of the returns, the other one will register as file missing. Therefore, to remove a duplicate return correctly, follow these steps:

  1. Click on one of the tax returns.
  2. Click on Remove Return from List.
  3. Click on Remove Only.

IMPORTANT: Do not select Remove and Delete.

If you've deleted a file by mistake and need to restore it, check your recycle bin and restore it from there.

If you can't find a deleted file, read the Knowledge Base article File Missing (Individual, Partnership and Ltd Company users) for further advice.
