Set up Mailboxes for Communications Centre

TaxCalc’s Communications Centre allows you to add and authorise your own mailbox system(s) within the TaxCalc Admin module and then use those mailboxes to generate and send emails from within TaxCalc.  

Adding your own Mailbox(es) into TaxCalc, as well as the means of sending emails, can differ depending on your mail provider.  

TaxCalc offers several options for the mailbox provider. Choose the option below that matches your provider to read more about setting it up:  

  • Gmail  

Gmail mailboxes can be added to TaxCalc and authorised using basic authentication.  
Once registered, emails are sent within TaxCalc by using an SMTP connection to your Gmail mailbox.

  • Microsoft Email  

This option is intended to cover all mailboxes that sit on the Microsoft platform, including @onmicrosoft.com / @office365.com / @outlook.com / @hotmail.com / @live.co.uk …and so on. If you have an Office365 email with your own domain alias (yourname@mydomain.com)} then you should also use this option.  

Once registered and authorised using OAuth, emails are sent using a connection to Microsoft’s newer RESTful APIs, rather than using SMTP.

  • Office 365 (legacy) / Outlook (legacy)  

These email options have been replaced by the new Microsoft Email option above and should no longer be used. While they may remain functional for some time, we advise changing any existing mailboxes that you have set up to use the Microsoft Email option instead.  

For reference, these mailboxes can be authorised using either basic authentication or OAuth and emails are sent using an SMTP connection.

  • Other  

If you have a mailbox that is not covered by the options above, you can choose this option to enter the details of your provider.  

This will authenticate using basic authentication and send emails using an SMTP connection to your email provider.
