Network Access is Disabled

When submitting a tax return through to HMRC, it can sometimes fail with the message 'Network access is disabled'

There are a few reasons for potentially obtaining this error when sending a live submission through the gateway. These include:

  • Proxy Server
  • Firewall/Anti-Virus blocking connection to the HMRC server
  • Having external network adaptors active on the network setup
  • conflict of multiple internet connections running con-currently (i.e. VPN connections)

External Network Adaptors

On some machines, there may be multiple network connections running even if they are not active on the machine. These can be disabled by following these steps below:

  • Open the Network and Sharing Centre (right-click on the network symbol in the bottom right of the screen in the task bar)
  • Select Change adaptor settings
  • Right-click on the external adaptors and click Disable

IMPORTANT: Do not disable the current connection that is set or internet connection will be lost.

Once the connections have been disabled, close and restart TaxCalc and attempt re-submission. If it still fails, restart the computer then try again as this can reset certain settings on the router.
