How do I encrypt or password protect my tax return?
If you want to encrypt or protect your tax return so that it can only be read using a password, follow these steps:
- Open the tax return.
- Go to File > Password Encryption.
- Read the introduction text carefully.
- Set a new password as required.
- Save the return.
When you next open the tax return you'll be prompted to enter the password that you've just set.
If you have forgotten this password, the only instance TaxCalc will be able to assist you with this is if you have the 'Enable Password Recovery' option set within Password Settings. To enable this you will be required to 'Save a copy of the tax return' locally to your machine and attach this to an email to request the password to be updated. Due to Data Protection rules and regulations as the tax return contains data we have to password protect the tax return and send it back to you (instead of unlocking the tax return file overall). We will provide you with the password over the phone.
Please Note: This feature is separate from locking the return. Locking stops accidental changes being made to a return but doesn't restrict access.
