In previous years, if you were 65 or over, you may have qualified for an additional age-related allowance on top of your personal allowance. Unfortunately since 2016/17, there is no additional allowance which can be claimed. See the table below for figures for 2016–17 and previous tax years. However, your personal allowance could be reduced if your total income exceeds the income limit. The personal allowance starts to be reduced when net adjusted income exceeds £100,000. The reduction is at the rate of £1 for every £2 over this limit.
