MTD Quarterly Filer - known issues

From initial testing we have established the following issues when setting up/submitting quarterly updates:

1. Quarterly Statuses - validation message re business start date

After the quarterly type has been amended to ‘Calendar’ in Business Information, and clicking 'Refresh HMRC statuses' in Quarterly Statuses, to retrieve the quarterly obligations, a validation message is showing on the screen which says:

‘Based on the obligation periods returned from HMRC, it appears that the business commenced on 6 Apr 2025, however the commencement date entered in TaxCalc for this business is xxxxxxxxx. Please check and update as required.'

As a result of this issue, the update period shows as starting on 1 April instead of 6 April. HMRC require the start date to be 6 April 2025 so this has to be changed manually by:

> Go to Data Submissions > Select the business > Create New Update > amend the start date

OR if the Update has been started:

> Go to Data Submissions > Select the business > click on Import Data and amend the start date > click Next

This issue will be fixed in the August 2025 release

2. Quarterly Statuses - not all periods retrieved from HMRC

After amending to 'Calendar' option in Business Information, when clicking 'Refresh HMRC statuses', potentially not all obligation periods will be retrieved. This is because of a delay in HMRC systems changing the obligation period dates. Clicking 'Refresh HMRC statuses' again later should retrieve all four periods.

3. When submitting an update period, the submission fails with an HMRC error '404 Matching resource not found'

This suggests that HMRC do not recognise the business ID. we suggest calling HMRC on the pilot customer helpline that would have been provided when registering the client for the pilot scheme.
