How to backup and restore my VAT information - non-practice user

Unlike the tax return data, VAT information is stored in a database and therefore we need to ensure that you have access to this data in the event of moving information between machines. In order to take a backup of your VAT data please follow the steps below:

  1. Open TaxCalc
  2. Click Help > Restore backup from file
  3. You will then be prompted to backup before restoring. Select YES
  4. Browse to a desired location where you wish to save the data (on your computer, mapped network drive or external hard drive as well as online sharing tools such as DropBox).

Please note, if you are moving TaxCalc to a new machine, you will need to ensure the backup can be transferred to the new machine or save this to a shared location.

If you ever need to restore the backup (on the same or a new machine), please follow the below instructions:

  1. Open TaxCalc
  2. Click Help > Restore backup from file
  3. You will then be prompted to backup before restoring. Select No
  4. Browse to the required location to retrieve your backup file and select Restore.
