What's the difference between renewing, upgrading and updating my TaxCalc software?

At TaxCalc we use the same terminology that's used across most software markets. Some of these expressions can seem similar so to avoid confusion, this page gives an explanation of each.

Renewal

If you're a user of our Accountancy Practice software, you'll be invited to renew your package 30 days before the end of the 12 month licence period of your current package. This means buying a new 12 month licence that begins on the expiry of the current one. If you renew at this point you still get the full use of the remainder of your licence and you avoid the risk of your service being interrupted if you're busy when your licence is actually due to be renewed.

If you're a non-practice customer, you'll be notified (subject to your communications preferences) when the new version of TaxCalc is released for each tax year. This will usually be towards the end of March.

Upgrade

An upgrade is when you move from any package combination to another that has capacity for a wider range of returns or you move from a package with restricted client capacity to one with a larger capacity.

Update

An update is when we release a new version of a TaxCalc application. We'll notify you of an update when you open the program and often by email as well.
