Before you move TaxCalc to a new Mac, make sure your current software is up to date. You can't easily move a database created in an older version of TaxCalc to a newer version.
If you do have to restore an older backup and you experience problems, contact Support for help.
Moving TaxCalc to a new Mac is a three-step process.
Make a backup (old Mac)
- Go to Hub > Administration > Database
- Select Backup Database.
- Insert backup file media that you can copy to the new Mac – for example, a memory stick or removable hard drive – or you can use a shared folder.
- Select the destination for the backup file being created.
- Once the backup is completed click on OK and exit the program.
Install TaxCalc (new Mac)
- Go to the Knowledge Base article How to install the Mac version of TaxCalc.
- Follow the instructions.
Restore the backup (new Mac)
- Insert the backup memory stick or hard drive into the new Mac, or open the shared folder.
- Open TaxCalc.
- Go to Administration > Backup
- Restore the backup.
- Your data set should now be visible when you start TaxCalc on the new Mac.
NOTE: This process will restore the data as it was on the old Mac so should not be performed on a Mac where data has been entered since being installed.
NOTE: If you store your return files outside the database, contact Support before moving TaxCalc in order to minimise any issues.
