TaxCalc 2010 and 2009 will not install or open in Windows 8 or Windows 10

if you are using a Windows account on Windows 8, TaxCalc 2009 and 2010 may not function.

When you configure a user account in Windows 8 it will ask you to set up the user as a Windows Account.This type of account allows you to sync between PC's, log in to cloud accounts like OneDrive and the Windows Store, and sync items like IE bookmarks automatically.

The other type of account is a local account.

Note - if you connect to a domain you do not have the option of a Microsoft account

It appears that on Windows 8 machines if you have it set as a Microsoft Account, the 2009 and 2010 installers for TaxCalc will not work. Even if you set the installer to compatibility mode, the installer will still show as incompatible, and will not run.

To get these versions of TaxCalc to install and run, add a new user. The related KB item Create an additional user in Windows 8 shows how this is done.

Once you have configured the new account, and made sure it is an administrator account, log in to that account and you should be able to install the program.

You can also change the account type. Changing the type will bring all the old settings across to the new type of account, no user data will be reset.

IMPORTANT - It is best to create a new account and install the programs into that if possible.
