Full uninstall and reinstall of TaxCalc on Mac OS Catalina or earlier - Practice

On the 22nd October 2021 we updated the installation media for our Mac users. If you are experiencing the problems detailed in the article below please firstly re-download the Mac installer from your TaxCalc account under My Account \ My Products and Services and try the installation again.

If you continue to have problems with installing TaxCalc on a Mac please contact where we will be happy to assist further.

If the previous instructions have not worked follow these steps exactly to correct the display issue. This will guide you through the uninstallation of the program. For Practice customers your tax returns are stored by default within the database and a manual restore of your database is required to retain your live data. 

  1. Open the Applications folder.
  2. Delete all instances of the TaxCalcHub application.

  1. Open Finder, select Finder > Go > Go to folder and type ~/Library.
  2. Navigate to the Application Support > Acorah Software Products > TaxCalcHub folder.
  3. Copy the hub.sqlite database file to your desktop.

    This is a backup of your LIVE database DO NOT PROCEED until you can verify a copy has been taken and saved in a different location.
  4. Click back and delete the Acorah Software Products folder.
  5. Open Finder, select Finder > Go > Go to folder and type ~/Library.
  6. Navigate to the Preferences folder.
  7.  Delete any preference files referencing acorahsoftwareproducts.
  8. REBOOT the computer.
  9. Run this installer - TaxCalc Mac V11.11.063.
  10. Open TaxCalc and click OK to the Apple message "TaxCalcHub" can't be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software.

  1. Open Settings > Security & Privacy and select the General tab and choose for TaxCalc to Open Anyway.

  1. Select Open to the malicious software confirmation message.

  1. When TaxCalc opens select Settings > Advanced display settings from the top toolbar.
     Set 3D acceleration to Use Software Rendering mode.
     Set 16-bit colour mode to Support 16-bit colour.

  1. Apply changes then close and restart TaxCalc.
  2. Select Help > Check for Updates to update to the latest version of TaxCalc which includes the 2020/21 tax year.
  3. Close TaxCalc and open Finder, select Finder > Go > Go to folder and type ~/Library.
  4. Navigate to the Application Support > Acorah Software Products > TaxCalcHub folder.
  5. Copy the hub.sqlite from your desktop and overwrite the blank hub.sqlite file within the TaxCalcHub folder.
  6. Start TaxCalc which will then update the database and display your returns correctly.
