Do I need a CD?

Most users do not require a CD or other physical media in order to use TaxCalc. Currently only about 1% of TaxCalc customers request a CD.

The disk is intended for those customers who only have access to slow or unreliable internet connections where the full initial download would be difficult to perform. The download is approximately 100Mb. This will take between 20 seconds on a fast connection or 9 minutes on a slower 1.5Mbps connection.

An internet connection is still required, at least briefly, by all customers in order to

  • license TaxCalc when first opened
  • gain access to add-ons purchased later
  • update the program to the latest version
  • file a tax return electronically

Please note: Every update in effect includes a full copy of the software, so on a very restricted link, you may still require a CD for important updates.

The version available for download is always the most recent version, but if a CD is used to reinstall, later updates will still need to be downloaded (or a CD used) to gain access to any updates.
