Tax Return Production

SA100 Individual Tax Return

• Updates to capital gains tax relating to the ordering and utilisation of losses brought forward and arising in the year.

• Improved the data entered summary for self-employment short form entries where trading allowance has been claimed.

• Added a new validation relating to self-employment short form and the availability of losses arising in the year.

• Updated the deficiency relief calculation to ensure accuracy.

• Updated the SA302 summary to ensure that the rows relating to Scottish tax rate bands are shown only when required.

• Updated the accounts import dialog to ensure that it reflects the updated value for turnover limits for completion of the Tax Return.

• Ensured that gifts to charity are not included in the Tax Return or tax calculation when the payment applies to a non-UK charity.

SA800 Partnership Tax Return

• Added a validation to highlight that partnerships with a company partner cannot claim annual investment allowance.

• Updated the accounts import dialog to ensure that it reflects the updated value for turnover limits for completion of the Tax Return.

SA900 Trust Tax Return

• Updated the ‘getting started’ area of the main Tax Return to provide more guidance regarding types of trusts.

• Additional validations to ensure in-year losses are correctly allocated against gains.

• Corrected an alignment issue on the foreign pages of the Tax Return relating to trust name and UTR.

• Updated the wording for questions 8.15 and 8.16 on the main Tax Return to exclude the mention of the standard rate band.

• Updated the SA302 summary to ensure that rows relating to deemed income are correctly shown when the trust is not taxed at the trust rate.

CT600 Corporation Tax Return

• Improvements to validations relating to changes being made to the accounts after they’ve been imported or attached to the Tax Return, so that different time zones do not affect their effectiveness.

• Updated logic to ensure entries for full expensing claims in the UK land and buildings wizard correctly populate the Tax Return.

• Updated the calculation for box 541 (AVEC/VGEC) to also include brought forward amounts and amounts surrendered to the company.

• Improved the display logic for previously entered loans in the loan to participators wizard.

MTD Quarterly Filer

• Added the ability to choose a percentage value when importing data for jointly held UK property.

• Added the ability to map multiple cells to a HMRC field when importing data for submission to HMRC.

• MTD Quarterly Filer will now check the status of HMRC’s Income Tax service on opening of the application.

• Refined the import mapping screen to accurately show net profit/loss values in cases involving disallowable items.

• Updated the behaviour of saved mappings to ensure additional changes are preserved when ‘save mapping’ is used.

• Addressed an issue in the foreign property section where commencement and cessation dates couldn’t be removed.

• Added warnings prior to MTD Quarterly Filer or TaxCalc being closed if a fetch session is in progress.

• Updated the display logic to ensure all quarters from HMRC appear, regardless of fetch order.

Practice Manager

• The Companies House Personal Code has been added, so it can be entered on individuals.

• Technical improvements to the Bulk Update Tool for better processing time, including a visual % progress bar.

General maintenance

• You can now view the update of assigning a user role or office with a custom value instantly within the User table.

• Dashboard client counter & Tax SA Filing Status widgets now show the correct counts on all occasions.

• Jobs will no longer execute task automation if using a test submission.

• Creating jobs and work (Accounts, Tax and VAT) using the bulk tool is now correctly retaining the work link and completion of the job will correctly link to the new work period.

Practice Manager and Engager.app

NOTE: Engager and TaxCalc integration is accessible for customers with CloudConnect, who have installed this release AND when Engager go live with the equivalent update. The Engager update is scheduled to go live during w/c 3rd Nov. Integration is instigated from Engager.app.

• Within the client list view, data mine and Report Manager you can view clients that are linked within Engager.app.

• Within the client list view, you can now directly open linked clients in Engager.app.

• This release will support integration with Engager.app for the following:

  • Two-way sync of client data

  • Create clients in TaxCalc from within Engager.app

The integration enhancements in this release lay the groundwork for deeper automation and full integration in future updates. 

Practice Manager and MTD Quarterly Filer

• You can now use and set MTD Quarter End dates within Job Templates.

• You can now bulk update work item statuses for Jobs and tasks using MTD Quarterly Filter.

• The submission of MTD Quarterly updates can now automatically complete Jobs and Tasks using automation.

• The completion of a Job can now automatically link the next MTD Quarter to the recurred Job and Task.

Communications Centre

• You can now request to record automatically for MTD Quarterly Filer in bulk or per each eligible MTD client.

• Request records and Request record reminders will now include MTD Quarterly Filer in Widgets and Notifications.

• You can now add MTD quarter end tokens to email messages and mail merge to communicate with clients.

General maintenance

• Improvements have been made to performance where a Mailing List includes a large number of recipients.

eSign Centre

General maintenance

• On occasion, adding a mobile now within the “Edit recipients” caused duplication. This has been resolved.

• Adding an email or mobile number with a non-default relationship type will now save the details in the envelope and within the client record.

• The knowledge bases article now correctly opens the expected Advanced Electronic Signature (OTP) link in the set default browser.

• Within “Add TaxCalc Document”, the Financial statement for certain client types is correctly showing one display of the same document.

Accounts Production

• Supplier Finance Arrangements: New disclosures as a result of changes to FRS 102 have been included for periods beginning on or after 1 January 2025.

• Reopening an existing posting batch will now focus the view to the last posting made, so a posting can be made immediately without the need to scroll.

• The Reserves note has been updated to display all of the reserves accounts where there are postings, for Share Premium, Capital Redemption Reserve, Other Reserves and Profit and Loss Reserves. These will be displayed for new accounting periods.

Charities

• Full financial statements have been updated to include the Detailed Statement of Financial Activities report for Charitable companies (limited by guarantee), Charitable Incorporated Association and Charitable Unincorporated Organisation. The report can be optionally included via statement preferences in Accounts Setup.

• Added a Check & Finish where Trustee’s remuneration and benefits and Trustee’s benefits notes have not been included in the financial statements of charities.

• Updated the display logic to ensure the Check & Finish prompt is displayed correctly when the breakdown provided for Grants to Institutions in the Grants Payable note is greater than the account code total for Grants to Institutions (1790).

Posting – Accounts-Style Batch

• The chart of accounts window will now open the applicable section of the chart based upon the location the picker is opened from.

• The resizing of the new Accounts-Style Batch window will now be retained when returning to the batch.

• A “-” sign can be entered at the end, as well as the the beginning, of an entry to record it as a Credit.

• Focus is set to the current row when reopening an Accounts-Style Batch via Audit Trail and Nominal Ledger.

• A crash in specific scenarios of Accounts-Style Batch will no longer occur.

• The Accounts-Style Batch will no longer display a warning that postings do not balance and create entries of £0 to account 9999 for each fund in the batch.

General Maintenance

• The Check & Finish message that displayed stating (incorrectly) that the statement of cash flow is out of balance when the size of charity (defined by SORP) is set to small, and the statement of cashflow is not selected to be included in the financial statements, will no longer be displayed.

• An expired FRS 102 MLA licence will no longer cause accounts generated using the licence to be read-only.

• Average number of employees will now retain values after saving, where in specific scenarios previously the values were not saving.

• A Check & Finish message relating to the disclosures in the Deferred Income note not matching the Balance Sheet, will now not be incorrectly displayed when an account code in the range (5362 to 5760) has an account total that is not £0.

• The new csv export template will no longer export unbalanced Trial Balance when an account code has postings allocated to multiple trustees.

• The Related party transaction note will correctly include the content of the first text box without having to tick the “Tick to provide details on individual related party transactions” check box.

• Changes made to the highest paid director within the Director’s Remuneration note will now be saved as expected.

• When importing a trial balance via third party (Xero, Freeagent or Quickbooks) for an individual, the default maps will now be displayed.

AML

• Identification, and any changes made to previously created identification, will now be saved correctly for Trusts clients.

Companies House Forms

• The prompt to create form CH04 will now correctly display when the registered office of a charitable company is edited and that charitable company is a Company Secretary of another charitable company.

Accounts Production

Accounts Production – Charity Accounts add-on

• The first phase of our new Charity Accounts add-on allows you to prepare SORP-compliant accruals accounts for Charitable Companies (Limited By Guarantee), Charitable Incorporated Organisations and Charitable Unincorporated Associations for charities registered in England and Wales and paper filing of the accounts. The updates include the following:

  • The charity reports will contain the applicable disclosures for the type of charity and in addition, the charity-specific SORP reports and notes. This includes administrative details, report of the trustees, Statement of Financial Activities (SOFA), independent examiners report.

  • A new chart of accounts has been created with additional accounts and groupings specific to charities:

    • Statement of Financial Activities

      • Income from donations and legacies (accounts 0200 - 0249)

      • Income from charitable activities (accounts 0250 - 0349)

      • Income from other trading activities (accounts 0350 - 0399)

      • Separate material item of income (accounts 0920 - 0922)

      • Other income (0930 - 0958)

      • Direct costs of raising funds and charitable activities (accounts 1200 - 1259, 1450 - 1457)

      • Support costs of raising funds and charitable activities (accounts 3010 - 3017, 3680 - 3699)

      • Separate material item of expenditure (accounts 3700 - 3702)

      • Other expenditure (accounts 3705 - 3707)

      • Extraordinary items (accounts 3730 - 3732)

    • Balance Sheet

      • Heritage assets (accounts 4190-1 – 4193-22)

      • Current liabilities – Accruals and grants payable (account 5365)

      • Current liabilities – Accruals and grants payable (account 5765)

    • Funds (accounts 8200 - 8250).

  • Creation and maintenance of unlimited funds and activities. A general unrestricted fund will be created by default.  

  • A new Account-Style Posting Batch as an alternative to the existing posting batch which categorises postings as they would be displayed in the report, providing a familiar layout of the SOFA and Balance Sheet.

  • Fund and activity breakdowns in the Trial Balance, Nominal Ledger and Audit Trail. The Trial Balance has a variety of options to display funds as columns with individual fund or classes of funds, activities as columns, and show or hide the charitable activities.

  • Within the reports, it will be possible to drill down from the figures on the charity reports directly to the constitute totals for the fund and activity totals, and edit these directly from the source entries.

  • Charity accounts can be attached to the CT600, signed electronically via eSign, saved directly to Document Manager, and will update the job stages where the automatic completion relates to the Charity Accounts.

Note: Further phases will include support for charities registered in Scotland and Northern Ireland, electronic filing to Companies House and more.

General Maintenance

• Reports have been updated so the signatures section has increased space to allow space for a physical signature when the signing date has been entered before the reports are signed.

• Within the Posting Batch screen, single clicking in the Officers field will activate the entry, where previously a double-click was required. Additionally, tabbing into the Officers field will activate the field ready for selection.

• Posting: Accruals and Prepayments type batches will now be brought forward correctly when a bring forward of opening balances is run.

• Trial Balance: The multiple period trial balance will now correctly show the postings assigned to officers where there are postings in the current year but not previous year.

Tax Return Production

SA100 Individual Tax Returns

• When SimpleStep^(R) is used for completion of the Capital Gains Tax pages, boxes CGT14, CGT23 and CGT31 are now populated with a zero when a capital disposal has been made that results in a no gain/no loss situation.

• Added validation messages to ensure that carried interest gains cannot be zero or negative values.

• Ensured that the IR mark presented in print preview considers CGT PDF attachments, so that then navigating to the File Online screen doesn’t result in a new IR mark being calculated.

• Updated the tax calculation for WhatIf Planner for 2025/26 to ensure that the row relating to taxable redundancy and other lump sum payments is included where relevant.

SA900 Trust Tax Returns

• Following guidance from HMRC, a validation has been added to prevent online filing where new box 9B.1 (number of other trusts) has not been filled for trusts that are taxed at the trust rate.

• Further improvements to the auto-calculation of the capital gains tax annual exemption, including validations where unexpected values have been entered.

• New HMRC exclusion #4 has been added for trusts taxed at the trust rate, advising that the calculation of the tax pool is incorrect where there’s an entry in either 9.15 or 4.7.

• Updated logic so that ticking 8.4 and 8.4.2 to confirm that the trust is a bare trust, does not automatically tick box 3a (unauthorised unit trust) in the Getting Started questions.

CT600 Corporation Tax Returns

• Charitable donation sub-totals were not being recalculated when the type of charitable donation was changed.

• Removed the option for importing previous year's tax return values for a charity when a previous year’s tax return does not exist.

MTD Quarterly Filer

• Added the ability to request a trial licence.

• Improved the messaging when no MTD Quarterly Filer licence has existed and a user clicks on ‘Find out more’ on the launcher screen.

• Updated the import screen so that the ‘Cancel’ and ‘Save and next’ buttons are shown on the right hand side of the screen.

• Added a context-sensitive link to help pages on the MTD Quarterly Filer screens.

• Updated logic so that HMRC’s ‘dummy’ commencement dates are ignored for businesses that commenced over two years ago.

• Simplified logic and added validations where a quarterly election has been made and the quarterly obligations haven’t been updated by HMRC or in TaxCalc.

• Updated logic on validation relating to commencement of the business that was sometimes showing in error for businesses with a calendar election and a commencement date entered.

• A display issue in the HMRC-estimated tax calculation where the NIC amount was also being shown in the CGT amount section has been updated.

• Added an information dialog where a previously saved mapping is being used but the selected spreadsheet does not contain a worksheet with a matching name.

• Added the ability to unlink business records from HMRC records, where these have been matched in error.

Practice Manager

New charity client types: Charitable company (limited by guarantee), Charitable Incorporated Organisation and Charitable Unincorporated Association. These have been added to Practice Manager and can be used across the application.

• The new client types will include the standard client information as well as charity-specific data, such as the charity number, trustees relationships (has a trustee/is a trustee) and fund/activity creation and maintenance.

• Widgets on the client dashboard, datamining and client searches have all been updated to include the new client types.

General Maintenance

• Updated security roles wording for MTD Quarterly Filer as locking tax years is now available.

• Improved performance within Communications Centre when using mailing lists.

• Client Counter dashboard widgets now display the correct count in all instances.

• SA Returns Filing Status dashboard widget now shows the correct Tax Year.

• eSign Centre documents will no longer show duplicate documents for Accounts Production reports.

• eSign Centre knowledge base link now automatically opens the KB article within the default browser.

Companies House Advanced Integration

• Companies House Sync Wizard updated to create and sync Charitable Company (Limited By Guarantee).

SA100 Individual Tax Returns

• WhatIf Planner has been updated for 2025/26 tax year.

  • Projected payments on account for 2026/27 will now be based on the tax liability calculated for 2025/26.

  • Fixed an issue where a property loss brought forward in the Tax Return was showing in the WhatIf Planner calculation in error.

CT600 Corporation Tax Returns

• Corporation Tax taxonomy update for 2025.

• Ability included to choose the type of charitable donations within the charities wizard, to distinguish between qualifying and non-qualifying payments, and added new CT Computation section showing amounts.

• Created a separate wizard for land remediation and removed vaccine research and land remediation from creative tax credits wizard, including updates to the CT Computation.

General maintenance

• Amended the logic to ensure box 659 is populated, where relevant, for corporation tax periods starting before 1 April 2024.

• Stopped the ability to refresh and import accounts to Corporation tax returns, when the return has been locked.

• Updated the calculation for paying by instalments, to ensure that the instalments are calculated using the corporation tax value before tax already paid.

• Updated the computation to display appropriate text relating to very large company instalments.

• Updated the logic for displaying information messages regarding large company and very large company tick boxes.

• Updated creative core expenditure boxes 663 and 665, to ensure they are locked if the wizard has been used.

• Updated validations relating to creative tax credits to ensure they are validating the relevant boxes.

• Removed an incorrect validation regarding calculation of patent box relief after applying the Nexus formula.

• The ‘Close’ button was not working in the Audio Visual Expenditure Credit (AVEC) and Video Games Expenditure Credit (VGEC) wizard - this has been corrected.

• Updated the logic for a validation error regarding box 515 (income tax deducted) when a repayment is due.

• Minor update regarding CT600F (Tonnage Tax) print preview and SimpleStep^(R) screens.

Practice Manager

• Technical improvements to the Bulk Service Wizard for better processing time, including a visual % progress bar.

• The Work Management page has a new page-by-page view option for easier and quicker navigation within jobs and tasks.

General maintenance

• Using Bulk Create with existing templates now links to Non-TC work periods on creation.

• Updated the MTD Filing Status widget to show the correct Tax Year.

• On occasion, services were being duplicated in services rendered and data mining - this has now been resolved.

• On occasion, services were not being displayed in data mining - this has now been resolved.

• Completed tasks are now always displayed in Work Management when using the filter “Completed” and closing/reopening TC.

• Reinstated the delete warning for Jobs/tasks that were being deleted through Work Management.

eSign Centre

• Advanced Electronic Signature (AES) option added to the eSign Centre to allow OTP sent to the nominated mobile number for the client in order to access the document.

Time

• The Time Analysis report now allows larger data export.

Accounts Production

As a result of the changes for The Companies (Accounts and Reports) (Amendment and Transitional Provision) Regulations 2024, for periods on or after 6th April 2025:

• The existing Check & Finish^(R) message prompts that warn where the accounting standard or size of company selections are appropriated based on the turnover/net assets have been updated to reflect the new company size thresholds:

• The Director and Strategic reports have been updated and will no longer display the sections which are not required for periods starting on or after 6 April 2025.

• Limited companies and LLPs have been updated to apply the new FRS 2025 taxonomy.

• Accounting periods will now be locked automatically following successful submission to HMRC for sole traders, partnerships, limited companies and LLPs, so as to prevent accidental changes to the accounts once they have been submitted. The accounts will continue to be locked on successful electronic submission to Companies House for limited companies and LLPs (unless you have previously disabled this option). Both locking options can be amended within Admin centre.

• A new ‘Company is a Community Interest Company’ checkbox added to the Quick Client setup within Accounts Production.

General Maintenance

• When the value displayed in the Balance Sheet for Deferred Taxation is £Nil, the dash will be correctly aligned to the right.

• The existing Check & Finish^(R) message prompt, verifying eligibility criteria for small and medium sized companies, groups and LLPs, has been updated to use “Gross Assets” as the Balance Sheet Total rather than “Net Assets”.

• Group Trial Balance and financial statements will now correctly include amounts posted to indirect subsidiaries in the consolidated figures.

• Updated the Check & Finish^(R) message regarding “Balance at the end of the period on the provisions for liabilities note for other provisions do not agree to the other provisions balance on the balance sheet.” that occurs when users' entries in the Provisions for Liabilities note correctly match the total postings to account code 6000.

• Fixed a spelling error in the Companies House Filing Wizard for Community Interest Companies.

AML Centre

• You can create Client Due Diligence and Risk Assessments for Charity clients.

Companies House Forms

• Companies House Forms can be created via event triggers for Charity clients.

Companies House Advanced Integration

• Companies House Sync Wizard will create and sync Charitable Company (Limited by Guarantee).

VAT Filer

• Changed a validation message to an information message and updated wording when box 4 has a negative value.

MTD Quarterly Filer

• Included a link to to our own template in the import data screen and provided default mappings for the template.

• Added the ability to lock the tax year.

• Allowed for a single import mapping to be created for all business types for summarised and detailed breakdown options.

• Improved the import screen for foreign property businesses to only show countries relevant to the tax year selected.

• Reviewed and updated validations regarding naming of PDF accounts attached to a Corporation tax return.

• CT600 / Large & Very Large Companies - this now validates when the relevant boxes (630 or 631) haven't been ticked.

Accounts Production

The accounts and Community Interest Company Report can be submitted electronically via the Companies House portal, TaxCalc will create a zip file containing the Accounts and CIC report in the required format to submit via the Companies House portal. Companies House are not yet able to accept these submitted directly via TaxCalc or any other accounting software.

  • Addressed some issues relating to Research & Development Tax Credits for accounting periods starting on or after 1 April 2024.

    • Updated the computation to reflect the correct PAYE cap.

    • Updated the wording on screen and on the computation to remove reference to ‘R&D workers’ in the PAYE section.

    • Updated the display logic for the validation relating to PAYE to ensure it considers the new PAYE cap.

  • Updated logic for completing box L30 (Remaining Corporation Tax liability) to ensure that it is only completed when required.

• Tax Return Production General Maintenance

  • Fixed an issue where tooltips were not displaying the tax year correctly.

  • Added ability to enter some ‘inadmissible’ characters ( for example % ) in text style boxes for printing purposes (these will be removed from HMRC online submissions)

Accounts Production

• When opening Accounts Production for the first time after running an update, if an update to the Accounts Production data is required, an information dialog will display the progress of this.

• For Limited Companies and LLPs updates have been made to the signing sections of the reports:

  • Where the date of signing has been entered in the report, the dotted lines above the signatures will be removed, indicating more clearly that the report is not awaiting a signature.

  • The Accountant’s report and Approval Statement have been updated to remove the word ‘Signed’ above the signature.

• General Maintenance

  • The statutory and detailed Balance Sheet for FRS 105 will correctly refer to Creditors disclosures as 'Creditors: amounts Falling Due After More Than One Year’.

  • The Company/LLP information has been updated to display directors/members at the date the report is run, where the signing date of the report has not yet been entered.

  • The default import map for Xero has been updated with the following changes:

    • Account code 805 (Accruals), 810 (Income in advance) will be mapped to 5360 Accruals and deferred income.

    • Account code 947 (Student loan deductions payable) will be mapped to 5320 Other taxes and social security.

    • For LLPs account code 960 Retained earnings will be mapped to 7500 balance b/fwd (Other amounts).

    • For Partnerships account code 960 Retained earnings will be mapped to 7000 capital brought forward.

  • The default import map for FreeAgent has been updated with the following changes:

    • Account code 823 (Deferred VAT) will be mapped to 5300 (VAT).

    • Account code 282 (Staff training) will be mapped to 3040 (Staff training).

  • The option to apply full disclosure for FRS 102 1A will no longer be been disabled after locking the accounting period.

  • Group reference will no longer be omitted from consolidated accounts where notes had been customized for the group and parent company.

  • Registrar financial statements will now correctly include the Audit Information note where the accounts have been abridged for FRS 102 1A.

  • The following online filling errors have been resolved and will no longer restrict the user from filing successfully with HMRC and Companies House:

    • 9999 – fatal: 2 inconsistent duplicate facts are present for ‘’Total additions including from business combinations, property, plant and equipment’’

Companies House Advanced Integration

• The Companies House sync will set companies as Community Interest Companies where they are registered as such at Companies House.

Companies House Forms

• Changing the registered office address or single alternative inspection location will now correctly display the prompt in Practice Manager.

• The presenter details will be populated correctly on the SH01 and CS01 where share allotments have been updated within the period.

Company Incorporator

• Clicking on ‘view certificate’ will now correctly open up Certification of Incorporation for LLPs.

Practice Management

• A new Community Interest Company option has been added to the client record for Limited Companies (Limited by shares and Limited by guarantee). This will be synced when using the Companies House Advanced Integration.

• Save time creating VAT Return work and non-TaxCalc work in bulk, using our enhanced Bulk Service Wizard.

• You can now include clients' VAT return period information within your client import CSV file.

• Restrict users' access to specific offices more easily, with our office dedicated option within users' client restriction page.
