How do I configure my firewall software?

To allow TaxCalc to access the internet you may have to configure your firewall software. Follow the steps for your particular firewall.

AVG Internet Security

Delete the application rule for TaxCalc, then grant access the next time you're asked:

  1. Close TaxCalc.
  2. Open AVG Internet Security.
  3. Go to AVG User Interface > Tools > Firewall settings
  4. Click on Profiles.
  5. Go to your profile (for example Standalone computer).
  6. Click on Applications.
  7. Click on the TaxCalc rule that you want to change.
  8. Click on Delete this rule.

Kaspersky

Delete the application rule for TaxCalc, then grant access the next time you're asked:

  1. Close TaxCalc.
  2. Open Kaspersky.
  3. Open the Settings window.
  4. Select Firewall under Protection.
  5. Click on Settings under Filtration System.
  6. In the Settings: Firewall window, select the Rules for Applications tab.
  7. Click on Delete for the TaxCalc rule.

McAfee Personal Firewall

How you access settings in McAfee depends on the version you have, but it will be similar to the following:

  1. Close TaxCalc.
  2. Open McAfee Personal Firewall.
  3. Click on Internet & Network.
  4. Click on Configure on the right.
  5. In the section Firewall protection is enabled, click on Advanced.
  6. Select Program Permissions from the Home list on the left.
  7. Find the entry for TaxCalc and click on Delete.

The next time TaxCalc requests internet access, you can set its permission level to re-add it to the list.

Norton 360

  1. Close TaxCalc.
  2. Open Norton 360.
  3. Go to the Firewall Protection settings:
    • Norton 360 – go to Tasks and Settings > Change Advanced Settings > Firewall Protection Settings
    • Norton 360 2.0 – go to Settings > Firewall Protection
  4. Open the (Firewall) Program Rules tab.
  5. Click on TaxCalc in the Program column.
  6. Change access to Allow:
    • Norton 360 – select Allow, then Apply > Close > Yes
    • Norton 360 2.0 – select Allow, then click on Close.

Norton Internet Security

  1. Close TaxCalc.
  2. Open Norton Internet Security.
  3. In the main pane, click on the Norton Internet Security tab.
  4. Click on Settings.
  5. Under Web Browsing, click on Personal Firewall and then click on Configure.
  6. On the left side of Norton Internet Security Options window, click on Personal Firewall and then click on Program Control.
  7. In the Program column, select TaxCalc.
  8. Change access to Allow.
  9. Click on OK.

Windows Firewall

Delete the exceptions rule for TaxCalc, then grant access the next time you're asked:

  1. Close TaxCalc.
  2. Open Windows Firewall.
  3. Open the General tab.
  4. Switch the firewall on and make sure that Don't allow exceptions isn't ticked.
  5. Open the Exceptions tab.
  6. Find the TaxCalc entry and click on Delete.
  7. Tick the box for Display a notification when Windows Firewall blocks a program.
  8. Click on OK.

Windows Live OneCare

  1. Close TaxCalc.
  2. Open Windows Live OneCare.
  3. Click on Firewall.
  4. Click on Configure firewall.
  5. Click on Advanced settings.
  6. Look for the TaxCalc entry and click on Allow.

ZoneAlarm

  1. Close TaxCalc.
  2. Open the ZoneAlarm control centre.
  3. Select Program Control on the left.
  4. Select Programs at the top.
  5. Find the TaxCalc entry and tick the box for Access Internet.

If this doesn't work, repeat steps 1–4, right-click on the TaxCalc entry and click on Remove.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

If you put in the EXE url in the browser, you'll get a warning page not allowing you to download it.

Close down the browser

  1. Close down the browser
  2. Close TaxCalc.
  3. Open Malwarebytes .
  4. Click on SETTINGS.
  5. Click on Allow List.
  6. Click on Add
  7. Click on Allow a website
  8. Put the dot on add a URL and provide our URL of taxcalc.com/installers/tchub11/universal/windows/ - this will allow for any future and past releases.
  9. Click on Done

** Also in the options, you can also select ALLOW AN APPLICATION TO CONNECT TO THE INTERNET. You should be able to select Taxcalc in the list.
